1969년 전남 고흥 출생. 중앙대학교 문예창작학과 및 동대학원 석사를 졸업하고 1994년 《실천문학》신인상으로 등단했다. 소설집 『두번의 자화상』, 『늑대』, 『국경을 넘는 일』, 『매향 埋香』, 장편소설 『여자 이발사』, 산문집 『세상의 큰형들』, 『기타 등등의 문학』 등이 있다. 신동엽문학상, 오영수문학상, 현대문학상, 이효석문학상, 한국일보문학상, 아름다운 작가상을 수상했다. 현재 순천대 문예창작학과 교수이다.
Born in 1969 in Goheung, South Jeolla Province, Jeon Sungtae studied creative writing at Chung-Ang University and started his career in 1994 by winning the Silcheonmunhak New Writer’s Award. His publications include the short-story collections Second Self-Portrait, Wolves, Over The Border, and Burying Incense; the novel The Female Barber; and the essay collections Big Brothers of the World, Et Cetera’s Literature. He has been the recipient of many awards and prizes, including the Shin Dong-yup Prize for Literature, the Oh Yeongsu Literary Award, the Contemporary Literature Prize, the Lee Hyo-seok Literary Award, the Hankook Ilbo Literary Award, among others. Currently he is a professor in the Department of Creative Writing at Sunchon National University.
