아흐메드 사다위는 이라크의 시인이자 소설가이며, 1973년에 바그다드에서 태어났다. 현재 저널리즘 분야에 종사하며 다큐멘터리와 TV 시리즈를 집필하고 있다. 단편 소설집 한 권과 소설 다섯 권을 포함하여 총 여섯 권의 책을 출간하였다. 대표작 『바그다드의 프랑켄슈타인』은 한국어를 비롯하여 25개 이상의 언어로 번역되었으며 2014년 국제아랍소설상, 2017년 프랑스 판타지 그랜드상, 2018년 골든텐터클상을 수상하였다. 또한 이 작품은 2018년 맨부커 인터내셔널상 및 2019년 아서 C. 클라크 인터내셔널상의 최종 후보작으로 선정되기도 하였다. 최근 소설 『열세 번째 달 The Thirteenth Month』를 출간하였으며 현재 튀르키예 이스탄불에 거주하며 작품 활동을 이어가고 있다.
Born in 1973 in Badgdad, Ahmed Saadawi is an Iraqi poet and novelist. He works in journalism and writes documentaries and TV series. He has published 6 books, one short story collection, and five novels. The most famous of these is the novel Frankenstein in Baghdad, which won the International Prize for Arabic Fiction in 2014. It has been translated into more than 25 languages, including Korean. He won the 2017 French Grand Prize for Creative Imagination, the 2018 Golden Tentacle for Frankenstein in Baghdad which is also shortlisted for the 2018 Man Booker International Prize and the 2019 Arthur C. Clarke International Award. He recently published his novel The Thirteenth Month and currently lives and works in Istanbul, Türkiye.
