1975년 카메룬 마루아 출생. 작가이자 페미니스트 운동가이다. 2010년 출간된 첫번째 소설 『왈란데: 한 남편을 공유하는 법』으로 이름을 알리며 암스테르담 프린스클라우스상을 수상하며, 이 책은 전세계 여러 언어로 번역되었다. 2020년 프랑스에서 출간된 『참지 않는 여자들』은 고등학생 공쿠르상, 국제 공쿠르 문학상 외 수많은 상을 수상했다. 프랑스에서 2021 문화 영향력 여성상을 받고, 2021 올해의 작가에 선정된 자일리 아마두 아말은 앙겔라 메르겔, 카말라 해리스와 함께 국제보도전문채널 프랑스24가 선정한 2020년 가장 영향력 있는 여성 10인 중 한 명으로 선정되었다. 2022년 11월 소르본누벨 대학교에서 명예박사학위를 받았으며, 2012년 카메룬 북부 지역 여성의 교육과 발전을 위한 사헬여성단체를 설립하였다.
Born in 1975 in Cameroon, Djaïli Amadou Amal is a writer and feminist activist. Her first novel, Walaande: The Art of Sharing a Husband, published in 2010, brought her instant recognition, winning the Prince Claus Award in Amsterdam. It also has been translated into many languages. Published in France in 2020, The Impatients was shortlisted for the 2020 Prix Goncourt and won numerous prizes including the Prix Goncourt des Lycéens. In 2021, Amal was crowned a Woman of Cultural Influence and selected as the Author of the Year in France. Along with Angela Merkel and Kamala Harris, she was also named one of the 10 most influential women of 2020 by France24, a French public broadcast service specializing in international news. In November 2022, she received an honorary doctorate from the Sorbonne Nouvelle University. In 2012, she founded the Femmes du Sahel, an organization dedicated to promoting the education and development of women in northern Cameroon.
