Jean Phillippe Toussaint Novelist Belgium
Jean-Philippe Toussaint was born November 29, 1957, in Brussels, Belgium. Toussaint has written nine books, including The Prix Médicis-winning Running Away (2005), that has each been translated into more than twenty languages. With his unique style Toussaint has certainly left a mark in the world of literature. Through this medium of writing, Toussaint conveys complex ideas that manifest in the mendacity of everyday life. In addition to writing nine books and putting his name on three major films, Monsieur (1989), La Sevillane (1992), and The Ice Rink (1999), Toussaint is also a skilled photographer. In 2012, he was invited for an exhibition at The Louvre Museum in Paris. The exhibition combines the artist’s photographs, videos, installation art, and performance pieces to “convey books without using writing.” Through this exhibition, Jean-Philippe Toussaint contemplates reading, the passage of time, and literature. In Korea, his books are published by Hyundae Munhak, Munhak Sasang and Segyesa.
