Sinead Morrissey Poet United Kingdom
Sinéad Morrissey was born in 1972 and grew up in Belfast. She was educated at Trinity College, Dublin and attained Bachelor's degree in1995, PhD in 2003. She has lived in Germany, Japan and New Zealand before returning to Northern Ireland in 1999. She has published five collections of poetry: There Was Fire in Vancouver (1996); Between Here and There (2002); The State of the Prisons (2005); Through the Square Window (2009) and Parallax (2013). Her awards include The Patrick Kavanagh Award (1990); an Eric Gregory Award (1996); The Rupert and Eithne Strong Award (2002); The Michael Hartnett Poetry Prize (2006); a Lannan Literary Fellowship (U.S.A, 2007); First Prize in the UK National Poetry Competition (2007); The Irish Times Poetry Prize (2009) and the T S Eliot Prize (2013). She was Writer in Residence at Queen's University, Belfast between 2002 and 2005, and has worked as a Lecturer in Creative Writing at the Seamus Heaney Centre for Poetry, Queen's University, Belfast since 2007. She was appointed Belfast's Inaugural Poet Laureate in 2013.
