Lee Sumyeong was born in 1965 in Seoul. She studied Korean Literature at Seoul National University and earned a doctorate in Creative Writing for her research on Kim Gu-yong at Chung-Ang University. She made her debut in 1994 wining the Writers’ World Newcomer’s Award with four poems including “More beautiful than enough.” She has published the poetry collections Curve of the Red Wall, Cats Watching Cat Videos, Always Too Many Rains, and As if, as well as numerous academic works and translations. She is the recipient of the 2nd Park In-Hwan Literary Award (2001), the 12th Hyundae Poetry Award (2011), the 12th Nojak Literary Award (2012), and the 7th Yi Sang Poetry Award (2014).
