Born in Seoul in 1953, Ch’oe Yun received her MA in Korean Literature from Sogang University, and her PhD in French Literature from the University of Provence Aix-Marseille. She debuted as a literary critic in 1978 with the publication of her essay in Literature & Thought. Her fiction writing was first published in 1988 in Literature and Society. She is the author of the short story collections There a Petal Silently Falls, Whisper Yet, The Thirteen-Scent Flower, First Encounter, and A Shared Journey; the novels You Are No Longer, Winter Atlantis, Mannequin, Orikmansti, and Blue Gate; and the prose collection Confessions of a Shy Outsider. Ch’oe is the winner of Dong-in Literary Award, the Yi Sang Literary Award and the Lee Hyoseok Literary Award. She is Professor Emeritus of the Department of European Languages and Cultures at Sogang University.
