이야기 너머에는 이야기가 있습니다.
국민 이전의 사람이, 가축 이전의 동물이, 가로수 이전의 나무가 이야기처럼 있습니다.
쓰는 일 너머에서 모든 경계를 지운 채 꿈으로 놓여 있습니다.
어떤 것들은 그 자리에 있지만 그저 상상되었습니다, 죽음과 전쟁처럼.
어떤 것들은 줄곧 상상되었지만 그 자리에 없습니다, 생명과 평화처럼.
우리는 설계된 미래를 믿지 않습니다. 이미 말해진 미래가 미래일 리 없습니다.
그곳에는 과거를 재구성한 현재가 있을 뿐입니다.
우리는 저 너머가 지금을 준거로 한 전망과 예측이 닿지 않는 곳이기를 바랍니다.
그래서 이야기 너머는 목표가 아니라 약속이어야 합니다.
우리가 다만 우리로서 거기 있겠다는 것.
저 새와 나무와 돌멩이들의 곁을 지키면서 말입니다.
새로운 이야기는 언제나 이야기 너머에서 시작됩니다.

Beyond Narrative
Beyond narratives lie narratives. There are people before citizens, animals before livestock, and woods before roadside trees—just like narratives. Beyond the act of writing, all boundaries are erased, and things lay there like dreams.
Some things are present yet merely imagined, like death and war.
Some things are absent but have long been imagined, like life and peace.
We do not believe in a designed future. A future that has already been narrated can’t possibly be our future. There, we’ll only encounter the present reconstructed from the past. We hope that the place beyond is out of reach of prospects and predictions based on the present.
Therefore, beyond narratives, there should be promises, not goals. We promise that we will simply exist as ourselves, standing by the birds, the trees and the stones.
New narratives always begin beyond narratives.
