천 개의 거울이 우리를 비춥니다.
거울은 황홀한 매혹의 세계이자 투명한 객관을 상징하는 존재입니다.
우리 모두는 서로 거울입니다.
서로에게 비추어 자신을 확인합니다.
돌과 벌레들, 나무와 새들, 별과 풀들, 하늘과 바다들도 서로에게 거울입니다.
만물은 서로를 비추고 서로에게 비쳐져 비로소 그 자신입니다.
그렇게 함께 이어져 무한한 우주를 이루고, 작은 물방울 하나에도 온 우주가 깃듭니다.
과거와 미래 또한 서로의 거울입니다.
과거와 미래가 서로 비추는 시간의 살갗이 현재입니다.
현재라는 이름의 무한한 순간들 위에서 서로 비추고 스며 시간은 한 영원을 이룹니다.
문학은 세계의 거울이고, 인생은 문학의 영원한 거울입니다.
문학은 차가운 반영이자 뜨거운 개입입니다.
투명한 숙고이자 황홀한 도취입니다.
문학은 다짐하되 명령하지 않으며, 공감할 뿐 강제하지 않습니다.
‘2019 서울국제작가축제’는 세계의 작가들과 문학을 사랑하는 모든 분들을 모시는 잔치의 자리입니다.
서로 다른 생각을 품은 문학이 천 개의 거울로 우리를 비추고 있는 곳,
오셔서 또 하나의 아름다운 거울이 되어주십시오.
Thousands of Mirrors Reflecting Us
A thousand mirrors reflect us.
Mirrors take us into an entrancing world of fascination and represent transparent objectivity.
We are all mirrors to one another. We identify ourselves in our own reflection in others. Stones, insects, trees, birds, stars, leaves of grass, skies and seas are all mirrors to one another. All things in the world reflect and get reflected by one another in order to complete their existence. Thus, they form an infinite universe, and every drop of water contains the entire universe.
The past and the future, too, are mirrors to each other. The present is the flesh of the time in which the past and the future reflect each other. The infinite moments of the present reflect and permeate one another to create eternity.
Literature is the mirror of the world, and life is the eternal mirror of literature. Literature is at once cold reflection and passionate intervention—clear contemplation and blissful intoxication. In literature, we find pledges but never orders—empathy but never coercion.
